Barack Obama: philosopher king

The more I watch how Barack Obama handles himself, the more I get the discomfiting feeling that this man believes himself to be some kind of transcendent, almost supernatural figure. It is getting kind of scary.

His stump speeches don’t talk of policy as much as they do about “changing the world.” He doesn’t talk so much about what his leadership will do, but rather talks about how WE must change to live up to HIS ideals.

Case in point – in Portland this weekend, he told us we can’t continue to “eat anything we want,” “drive our SUV’s,” and heat and cool our homes to our desired temperatures. Pretty chilling.

There was a revealing glimpse into this man’s soul recently when he was objecting to the Tennessee GOP making an issue out of his wife’s anti-American comments. In an interview, he said

“If they think that they’re gunna try to make Michele an issue in this campaign, they should be careful. Because that I find unacceptable.”

Read that carefully. He didn’t say it is wrong to go after Michele by some moral standard or ethical standard or standard of fair play. No, the reason they should stop criticizing Michele is because Barack Obama finds it unacceptable. Barack Obama, in his view, is the arbiter of right and wrong.

I don’t want to make too much of this, but I really do think it is a glimpse into this man’s Messianic view of himself.

I really do think this is scary.

The only "truth" that comes from barry's mouth in his admonishing of Portland is that he WILL further the decline of the standard of living of the growing proletariat class as well as the middle class.
He will not stop until we reach third world status.

Equality?
Reparations?
Only time will tell.

If Obama is elected (which I don't think he will be) it will be interesting to see if the system of checks and balances in our government can withstand him. The last time we elected a Messiah was in 1932 and he had it all his own way for a little while. Then the Supreme Court started shutting him down and his efforts to rig that body pretty much ended the "successes" of his megalomania. Americans will, eventually, have their blinders torn off about Obama. The only question is whether it will happen before or after November.

I kind of want Obama to win the general. The total failure he will enact will make Bush look like JFK.

Advising one to "be careful" is an implied threat. He may or may not have meant it in that way in the interview, but it pays to choose words carefully during an election. Few other candidates match his grandiloquence on stage, and that alone seems to captivate those who most cherish him. He will not be my choice as he has offered little, but he will likely be the next president and I will try to support him. I hope that he remembers his position of power is only granted by the people, and his words once spoken cannot be retrieved.

Hard to trust a guy who declares; "I want to be as careful getting out (Of Iraq) as we were careless getting in"

Of course, Barry can do no wrong. Quayle and Bush I can get roasted over the coals with their gaffs, but Obama is a "Gaff Machine"

LOL.. first he suffers from moral equivalence... now he's too morally strident. Honestly, you know, and I know, there is nothing he could do that would make you happy. Just make one post that syas "I don't care what he does or what he says, I don't like Obama." That will save you lots of typing in the future.

Oh.. care to link to your sources for your quotes? I haven't seen any that quoted him as saying "gunna". I've seen "going to" and "gonna". Shows a certainly willingness to be intellectually sloppy.

Have you traveled in the 3rd world? Have you seen real poor people (not the clean, neat "homeless" people begging on corners here)? Have you seen the traffic in Cairo, Egypt? Everybody wants what we have and there isn't enough oil and other resources to support this. We've been king of the hill for a long time. Change is coming and I (a former Republican and Independent) voted for Obama in the hope that he will do the best job dealing with the changes coming. But we are downsizing. Get used to it. Life will still be very good good here at least for most of us.

Don:
Indeed I have travelled in the 3rd world, including Cairo. What is the point? That the U.S. is headed to third world status?

Just what change is it that you think is on the horizon that Obama will lead us through?

Downsizing? Only by government force, which both Obama and McCain seem hell-bent on using to get us to use less energy.

Link is below. I quoted it just as he said it. Listen for yourself: he said "gunna".

I have not voted for a candidate in either major party for forty years or so.

After eight years of Bush II with "W" choosing a lemon to lead his transition team and as veep (Cheney) and lemons in most cabinet and agency positions; after failures of leadership or scandals at CIA, FEMA, SEC, FCC, HUD etc., I am going to take a chance on Obama. His endorsements (Kennedy, Dodd, Richardson, Nunn, Byrd, Kerry, Edwards et al and possibly Colin Powell, lead me to hope Obama should at least be able to put together a competent administration that can administer straight.

So Kennedy, Dodd, Richardson, Nunn, Byrd, Kerry and Edwards are hope builders?

"Sober up Gus" reminds me of a quote attributed to Winston Churchill:

“'You are drunk Sir Winston, you are disgustingly drunk. 'Yes, Mrs. Braddock, I am drunk. But you, Mrs. Braddock are ugly, and disgustingly fat. But, tomorrow morning, I, Winston Churchill will be sober.”

I'd like to retort to your post by breaking it down.

"The more I watch how Barack Obama handles himself, the more I get the discomfiting feeling that this man believes himself to be some kind of transcendent, almost supernatural figure. It is getting kind of scary."

On the contrary, he has said an inumberable amount of times in speeches, in his books, in interviews, etc., that this campaign isn't about him, it is about us.. the American populace. He is merely a reflection of what the people want to see in the presidency. He has the judgement, vision and capabilility to unite this country. Which is in stark contrast of the Bush Administration.

"His stump speeches don’t talk of policy as much as they do about “changing the world.” He doesn’t talk so much about what his leadership will do, but rather talks about how WE must change to live up to HIS ideals."

Actually, in many stump speeches and debates he has comprehensively broke down his health insurance plan, how to deal with Iraq, tax cuts for the middle class, etc. He's not asking us to change to his ideals at all. He's asking us to participate in the democratic process so that we can all live up to America's ideals. If you can prove otherwise, I'd like to see your sources.

"Case in point – in Portland this weekend, he told us we can’t continue to “eat anything we want,” “drive our SUV’s,” and heat and cool our homes to our desired temperatures. Pretty chilling."

You're interpreting him too literally. When he's talking about not eating anything we want, he's saying we should all honor our bodies. You are what you eat. This also relates to health care. If we educate the populace on nutrition, that means more healthy people, and less health care costs.

Concerning the SUVs. He's not demaning that we all stop driving them as if it was some dictator's creed. He's merely bringing up a point that we can't afford to drive gas guzzling SUVs b/c it erodes our environment and also hits our pocket books with rising gas prices. If we're gonna drive SUVs, let's look at clean energy alternatives. Hybrid cars are the first step.

“If they think that they’re gunna try to make Michele an issue in this campaign, they should be careful. Because that I find unacceptable.”

"Read that carefully. He didn’t say it is wrong to go after Michele by some moral standard or ethical standard or standard of fair play. No, the reason they should stop criticizing Michele is because Barack Obama finds it unacceptable. Barack Obama, in his view, is the arbiter of right and wrong."

This quote is taken out of context! Right after the quote you posted he goes on to say, "Because that I find unacceptable. The notion that you start attacking my wife or my family -- you know, Michelle is the most honest, the best person I know."

He has said many many times that this campaign shouldn't be about each other's wives or family, it should be about the ISSUES. He's simply defending his family as a man. I actually find that admirable. How would you like it if you went to a job interview and someone competing for that same job told the interviewer some false things about your wife? Wouldn't you defend her?

Also, I'd like to see these "anti-american" quotes. Because all the ones that have been brought up have long since been discredited as sensationalized lies.

Barack Obama is the last man to claim himself as Messianic. He's a man of God and truly understands that or most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet, we all breathe the same air, we all cherish our children's future and we are all mortal.

I think the two of you make great contrarions to the populus, the people have spoken. America doing business as usual is and has been unacceptable by the world for years. Taking quotes from speeches and strategically placing them out of context as the benefactor of your argument still does not give your argument any value. One excerpt from a speech by no means gives you any insight into barack's moral fibre. The fact is we have a failing economy, hated world wide and our army spread out we are vulnerable. But far too many Americans think like you and will probably vote for a 72 year old partisan leader to bring new ideas to the country. You think fortune five hundred companies turn to 72 year old men for new ideas, how many 72 year olds do you know who can still drive much less turn around a failing government. Go on cast your vote and we can both have a laugh about it in the unemployment line.
