If you haven't already seen it, you HAVE to go read Dwight Jaynes' column in the Tribune today.
I was going to quote it here and develop some of his points, but really, it wouldn't add a thing.
Just go read it.

Nice. But remember, everyone has their pets. And DJ supports the major league baseball stadium deal subsidy based on bonding future, projected state income taxes of ballplayers. This stinker is a radical new form of Urban Renewal laying in the grass.
I liked the article - to a point. He raised some good issues, but of course always dives into how we need more major-league teams here. That's where he falls down. I agreed with many of his points, but completely get turned off when he starts talking about the "importance" of major-league "sports" -- because they aren't at all important.
I don't want my money spent on stupid stuff, although that does seem to be what Portland excells at doing. If I get to vote (which is unlikely, as Portland and Metro just cram stuff down) my vote would be "no".
If sports is so important, then private money can pay for it.
Hey Redline, maybe we can spend more money on poorly used mass transit, or golly, we sure could use some more bikelanes!
